Suicide Messiah

Wednesday, 28th of November 2007. Long fucking day, exausted and in need of a Goldleaf. The traffic on the road was unbeleivable as i was going home with my friend after a long day of Statistics.

The car radio was tuned on to 101.7 as we heard the Dj warn us of a huge traffic block at the heart of Nugegoda, this was around 5.25pm, Rush hour. Apparantly some Container had broken down near the Supermarket and was blocking all vehicles going through Nugegoda. We turned the car around and into the Highlevel road 'cause we were headed towards Maharagama (Pannipitiya in my case). 5.45. Fucked up time, traffic jams everywhere but atleast they were moving a Metre per 2 minutes. While we wernt even for 10 Minutes atleast. I had my earphones on and i was listening to some new albums i loaded onto my phone the other day.

Nugegoda, 6.05pm. Everything was chaotic. Huge fire near the Nolimit clothes shop opposite the Bo Tree, People running towards it, Police officials trying to keep the people away, Ambulances, Fire fighter's try to put the fire off. I knew it couldnt have been a normal fire as i saw the top part of the building next to Nolimit blown off. Suddenly i heard the Dj announce that a bomb has gone off and to stay away from Nugegoda by taking alternative routes. Phone lines were jammed as i was trying to get through to my parents, friends and relations to make sure they were ok and to warn them to stay away. The usual 1 hour trip from ACBT to my haven in Pannipitiya, today took me 3 hours.


00:45AM. The bomb was found in a parcel at the counter of Nolimit. This was the 2nd attack by the LTTE in the area within 24 hours as a female member of the LTTE suicide squad had walked into the Ministry of EPDP leader Douglas Devananda and blown her self up. A male had handed over the parcel to the counter and has left the scene with a number tag. The bomb had gone off when a police officer of the Trafic division and a minor employee of the Shopping complex had tried to open the parcel. The presence of the suspicious parcel had been known by the Shop owners as well as the Nugegoda Police. But neither of them had taken action to check on the reports.

Same day, Isipathana Road, Narahenpita, a few miles a away from Nugegoda. Female suicide bomber blows her self in front in attempt to execute EPDP Leader Mr.Devananda. A failed mission as the minister was out at that particular moment. but she managed to kill herself and 3 others including the Minister's secretary and some other's.

The next day (Thursday, 29th) there were rumours about the city water supply has been poisoned. What exactly is happening to this country? When will Prabakharan's thirst for cilvilian blood ever end? After i watched the video of the Suicide bomber, i started thinking. What kind of Training and Brainwashing did that woman go through? She was apparantly in her 20's. She must've been a sister/mother/daughter of someone (obviously). What would go throught Thier minds once they start watching their loved ones blowing themselves and killing others in the process. What made her plan the execution for days, come all the way to the Minister's office, and Blast her self? Her target was a member of her own culture. A Tamil. What was going through her mind? what kind of mentality are these people in? What does Prabakharan plan to achieve by killing thousands of cilvilians?

I obviously do not post these questions with the intent of getting a satisfactionary reply but out of curiosity and wonderment.

Colombo isnt safe anymore. Once we step out of our houses theres no guarantee that we'll return in good health. So be safe, be alert.
